A Veterinarian’s Facts About Horses That Paw
Dr. Scott Davis talks about pawing horses and the problems it can cause. My Shoez has come up with an effective way to stop pawing or pacing horses. With the help of Lauman Training they have taken an old timer tick and turned it into a valuable tool for training!
the vet forgot to mention the effects it has on the hoof itself. my donkey’s hooves are very short on the toe due to her constant pawing.
With better hoof-care/exercise/space than she had in her previous home, I expect her feet to get better in condition i the next year or so.
We used a nylon dog collar above the fetlock with a short stout chain. It worked well. The old cowboys called it a bang chain for obvious reasons.
@fantasyreflection We have also used that technique but found that it was hard to keep the collar tight enough to keep it from falling down around the horses ankle, were it didn’t work. Thanks for the comment!!
use a hobble
@Dojocho That also works great but it doesn’t give the horse his feet for balance such as in a trailer. Also with hobbles they will learn to rear to move.
Everyones an expert..Jeez.. pay attention… I can tell that Kitty is a great horse trainer, she taught this horse to dig a new septic system for the ranch which saved a lot of manual labor.. so now se is simply UN-training him. Simple! Need a new septic or maybe grandmas grave? Train / UnTrain…
Good Job Kitty.. Hey, how did you teach that horse to dig like that? That’s what we want to see!
How exactly does this work to show them not to paw?
The myshoez site doesn’t work 🤔
Hmmmm tied up for a couple of hours….I think Id paw too!
