Baby Cow Finds Refuge With Wild Herd of Deer
Over a year ago at a farm in Holland, New York, a cow named Bonnie was born. The farm raises cattle for beef, so Bonnie’s future seemed to already be sealed. But Bonnie had other ideas.
At just 4 months old, the baby cow escaped from the farm while her fellow herd of cows was being rounded up, and she ran off into the woods. The community spent months looking to her, but to no avail.
Then, to everyone’s surprise, she was spotted on wildlife cameras. Even more surprising was that she was not struggling at all. She had actually been adopted into a wild herd of deer and was seen sleeping, eating and roaming with them.
She even began acting deer-like, darting away from humans and seeking cover behind trees and bushes to avoid being spotted.
A volunteer began leaving food out for her and built her a shelter so that she could better survive during the winter months.
Bonnie ended up spending eight months with her new deer family before the volunteer was able to gain her trust enough to help capture her.
After being corralled, she was brought to Farm Sanctuary, where she will spend the rest of her days living a happy and care-free life.
